WALSH GLAZING LTD. THEY ARE CRAP

WALSH GLAZING LTD. Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, LONDON

After going in to Walsh Glazing Ltd to order a simple small mirror to be cut for my hallway on Monday I had nothing other than bad service from incompetent staff.
Breakdown of Events:
Monday: 4pm Order Mirror. A slightly apathetic sales man tells me “it will be ready tomorrow - not sure when, we are waiting for a delivery but we will call you.”
Tuesday: Tuesday come and goes. I leave it, not wanting to be too pushy.
Wednesday: 11am I call Walsh Glazing Ltd. to enquire. An older women with a pissed-off and negative tone says they are not sure when it will be delivered, they haven’t received a delivery and will get back to me that day. I say that it is fine, I’m not in a major rush, but could they deliver it (with their advertised free service) when it is ready. In an arse she agrees!
Thursday: After receiving no contact on Wednesday, I call Walsh Glazing Ltd. to make another enquiry. Sorry no voice recording… but the following is a rough transcript of the conversation:
MG: Hello, I ordered a mirror from you on Monday, I just wondered when it was going to be delivered?
Girl1: What’s your name?
MG: My name’s Matt, I came in on Monday late afternoon, its a smallish mirror with one hole in it.
(put on hold)
Girl1: What size is it?
MG: I can’t remember off the top of my head, sorry, I gave the measurement to your man.
(put on hold)
Girl1: Did you leave or deposit or have you got a receipt?
MG: No, I was told it would be ready on Tuesday and you’d call me, I left my number.
Girl1: Well we don’t take orders like that, we only take deposits!
MG: Well I came in on Monday, that is what your man said.
Girl1: I’m sorry I’ve never spoken to you before though.
MG: (starting to get agitated) Yes, I know that, I just want to know when and if you can deliver the mirror that I ordered? I’ve called quite a few time this week as well.
Girl1: I haven’t spoken to you before though, we’re short staffed cause everyone is on holiday.
MG: (starting to get really agitated) I can appreciate that, but that’s got nothing to do with me, all I’ve done is order a mirror from a man in your shop on Monday night and I haven’t received it.
(put on hold)
Girl1: We can deliver it on Monday, we’ve got your mirror here, but we can’t deliver until Monday.
MG: Is that the best you can do? We really need the mirror and we have waited quite a while now!
(put on hold)
Girl1: My colleage is on the other line, hang on a minute.
(on hold for a long time)
Old Women (from earlier in the week): Hi, you want to speak to somebody else?
MG: No…
(pregnant pause)
Old Women: Oh. OK then. Bye.
Conversation ended!
That is the last contact that I had with Walsh Glazing Ltd.
10 out of 10 for customers service!!!

My problem was solved eventually by a great glass company:

Was interested to read your story as my downstairs neighbours had something delivered from Walsh Glazing a few months ago. When the delivery men arrived our front door happened to be ajar as we were unloading our car. The delivery men saw this and mistakenly clamboured up our stairs carrying the mirror. When we told them they were in the wrong flat one grunted and cursed under his breath and they bolted back out, knocking down - and smashing - one of our pictures in the process. No apology was made for either disturbing us or breaking something that belonged to us. I always find that when something stinks the company in question is likely to be rotten to the core. Rumour has it that M&S will be taking over the site. I hope so. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Yeah. My experience wasn’t quite that bad but I can see where you’re both coming from.

    a) One of the 4 window panes I ordered was completely the wrong size (though, it has to be said, they did replace it about a week later, after some chasing up, mind).

    b) The fitting itself seemed clumsy and untidy - afterwards I discovered that, when it rains, l have water coming through a gap where they hadn’t put in enough putty.

Need some new glass and a mirror now so thanks for the ‘glassinlondon’ tip.

Walsh replaced a window pane for me. They arrived promptly and did a great job. The whole thing was only £60 all in.

I’m guessing many of their problems mentioned here and elsewhere on the web are due to a lack of scheduling technology. Everything would appear to be tracked using paper chits, which could dissapear, not get passed from person to person, errors made when copying information by hand etc…

I had Walsh’s come round to work on my sash windows: work on 3 boxed windows that had become too narrow for their frames, replace sash cords, imbalances to be sorted, refitt beading. God they did such an appalling job it beggars belief. They did not have a copy of the quote whenever I pointed out things on the quote they had not done they said well it’s not on our quote which was a scrap of paper with the price on it. They left two windows with the same problems they were supposed to fix, created problems on one window which they were supposed to fix on another, they cut up and busted beading and art of the frame on one window. While they did spend a reasonable amount of time in my house, one was semi-competent and the other a total buffoon. Don’t let these guys touch your victorian sash windows.

I got in touch with them about the work, they came and redid it and now I’m very happy for what I got for the money. So at least they respond to customer feedback and respond well. I think a lot more of them and I didn’t have to argue to get them to revise their work

They all need to be sent on a customer service course…a long one. It’s like they want to pick an argument when you call. The transcript of MG above sounds very familiar.
I’m still waiting for my DG units. When they arrive, even if they are perfect I won’t use Walsh again.

After having double glazing fitted by they fitters. They put wood around the inside and never sealed the windows up. Also the wood around the inside was skirting board. They came back to replace all the wood and when wood taken off inside the windows were loose. Also fitted dormer window and left a gapping big hole on the flat roof under the plastic where lots of rain got in and flooded me out. Ruined my ceiling.

I asked Walsh to produce several mirrors cut to a precise size, polished and rounded edges, with drilled holes. And… they did it perfectly, called me when it was ready to ensure someone was at home, and delivered them at precisely the time they said they would. Rather a boring story, but a website with this name is likely to atract people who want to be critical (one called “weretheygoodornot.com” would at least be even-handed) and some balance seems fair. I came across this website when I wanted their phone number and so since other people might do so for the same reason, it seems reasonable that Walsh’s get a fair hearing. I have no complaints; quite the opposite.

This website isn’t about balanced views. The clue is in the title. M Daley hasn’t really worked this out has he? I think if you end up on here, with heaps of bad press… on balance you’re probably crap.
